Reflecting on Learning English at SENA

Imagen
What I Learned and What Comes Next Looking back, I feel very proud of how much I’ve learned through this process. English is no longer a subject for me — it’s a living tool that I use every day to learn, communicate, and grow. I now understand articles, write reflections, and can hold conversations that seemed impossible before. I’ve learned that consistency, curiosity, and practice are key elements in mastering a language. My next goal is to reach a B2 level and continue developing my career with international skills. I’m thankful to SENA, my instructors, and myself for the effort and dedication I’ve put into this journey.

Speaking English – My Audio Experience

Imagen
One of the most challenging and rewarding experiences has been recording an audio podcast in English. In this podcast, I talk about my academic and work journey, including how English has shaped my career and goals. It helped me improve my fluency, pronunciation, and confidence in speaking. Listening to myself made me realize my progress and areas I can still improve. I believe audio exercises are powerful tools in language learning. https://mcdn.podbean.com/mf/web/cfjf6e5i36t2d299/actividad-de-ingles_ELIAS_FARAKasmzu.mp3

My Career Goals and English as a Tool

My biggest dream is to become a Data Analyst and eventually specialize in Artificial Intelligence. I believe technology will change the world, and I want to be part of that transformation. English plays a key role in my professional development. Most courses, research, and tutorials related to data science and AI are in English. That’s why I focus on improving my technical vocabulary and communication skills. Currently, I’m taking extra courses (bootcamps), developing projects, and participating in group discussions that require me to read and write in English daily. I know that this will help me collaborate with international teams and access global opportunities.

Crime and Justice: Learning Through Real-Life Cases

Crime and punishment is a topic that helped me understand the importance of justice systems and ethics in society. In our English class, we read about real cases and debated on important issues like rehabilitation vs. punishment. We also learned how to express our opinions respectfully in English, building strong arguments and listening to others' perspectives. This practice helped us improve vocabulary related to law, society, and human behavior.  Through this topic, I became more aware of how justice works in different countries and how language can be used to discuss serious matters in a professional way.

Why Critical Thinking Matters in the Digital World

In the digital age, we are constantly receiving information from websites, social media, and online platforms. Not all of this information is accurate or trustworthy. That’s why critical thinking and media literacy are so important.  During our English classes, we analyzed how fake news spreads and why it is essential to evaluate the sources we trust. We practiced identifying fake content, distinguishing opinions from facts, and developing logical thinking.  This topic has taught me how to make better decisions, question misleading content, and verify sources all in English. These skills are not just academic; they help me in daily life and will be useful in my future professional roles. h
